What to check before choosing a PKO server
Know the names and client requirements
Tales of Pirates and Pirate King Online are names you will encounter across the same game community. Search results may also use the abbreviations ToP and PKO. A shared name does not mean that every project uses an interchangeable client or patch. Read the owner installation guide and confirm the required version before joining. Check which parts of the original game are preserved and which have been changed.
Compare progression beyond level speed
Experience rates are one part of a Tales of Pirates server. Drop rates, party bonuses, equipment progression and custom quests can change how you spend your time just as much. Ask whether the stated rates are the normal baseline or a temporary event. Look for information about level caps, trading and seasonal resets, especially if you want a long-running character rather than a short progression cycle.
Choose the activities and community you want
Consider how much you want to focus on quests, sea combat, guild play or PvP, then read the project description for support for those activities. Community language and event times matter when you need other players for group content. Recent announcements and clear joining instructions can help you understand a project, but they do not guarantee future activity. Ask the community about any feature or rule that remains unclear.
